Tricks & Treats for Halloween

Have you started thinking about the holidays yet? I for one, cannot believe that we're almost through October. Say what!?!

In light of the fact that Halloween is next weekend (yep… if you're making costumes, now would be the time to get on that… ahem, that would be me), I thought that I would share some healthier options if you still like to participate in the festivities and hand out candy. Our church is holding our annual Fall festival next Sunday with a Trunk-or-Treat and it got me thinking about better choices when it comes to passing out candy.

The bottom line is that all sugar is sugar, but there are some brands out there that are more conscientious about the type and amount of sugar, avoiding food-dyes, and using organic ingredients. In case you haven't heard of these, I'd encourage you to take a look.

Check out brands like:

@unreal.snacks - Unreal uses less sugar, REAL ingredients, and boasts an UNREAL taste! I love their version of M&Ms and peanut butter cups.

@free2bfoods - Free2bFoods is known for making delicious treats that are free from the top 12 food allergens!

@yumearth - YumEarth is all organic and uses simple ingredients that you can recognize and pronounce. They make hard candies and chocolates.

@altereco - Alter Eco makes one of my favorite chocolate bars (Blackout… so good!) but they also make organic chocolate truffles that are individually wrapped!

@ochocandy - OCHO Mini's makes a great substitute for Snickers or MilkyWay bars.

@surfsweets - Surf Sweets makes delicious snacks made with organic ingredients and they are all free of the top 10 food allergens!

I've seen many of these brands at Target and at our local grocery and health food stores. You can also order them from Amazon. You may also want to consider passing out things like clementines decorated to look like jack-o-lanterns, bananas that look like ghosts, or you could even give out organic prepackaged granola bars, popcorn, or fruit snacks. Get creative! :)
